De N.U.C. heeft een bestuur bestaande uit een voorzitter, een secretaris, een penningmeester en bestuurslid Marketing & PR. Het bestuur beslist over de activiteiten en het beleid van de organisatie en bestaat uit studenten en young professionals.
Mitchell Esajas is co-founder and chair of New Urban Collective, a social enterprise with the mission to strengthen the socioeconomic position of youths with a migrant background, especially those of African descent. He obtained a master’s degree in in Social and Cultural Anthropology and a master’s degree in Business Administration and works as a program manager of the master’s Medical, Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam. In addition, he organizes education, empowerment and advocacy programs for youths, students and young professionals from diverse cultural backgrounds in Amsterdam.
Jessica de Abreu (the Netherlands) has recently graduated from the department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at VU University Amsterdam. Her passionate commitment to the field of African Diaspora, led to researches on upward social mobility in New York, Amsterdam, and London. From a young age, she has been regularly involved in (and filming at) various political, social and cultural organizations that empower multicultural communities by creating self-awareness and encourage critical thinking. She currently studies Business Anthropology (international master Culture, Organization and Management) at the VU University Amsterdam, with a focus on social entrepreneurship in Black British communities and postcolonial perspectives.
Thiemo links sustainability in innovative ways with international development and diversity in the Netherlands and knowledge from unexpected angles. As a biologist specialized in Tropical Ecology Thiemo did research on Surinamese plants placed in it’s social and historical context. Thiemo initiated the website "Botanical Heritage of Suriname Project": "Every plant tells a story." This innovative project sheds new light on the history and value of various ecological elements, and could also be applied in other regions. Findings from this project were be used in an informative local eco-route and an eco-resort on an abandoned plantation in Suriname. Thiemo previously worked at the Centre for Study and Documentation of Latin America in the Excellent Young Scholars program as a research project member investigating the impacts on ecological and social sustainability of biodiesel production in Brazil around the Brazilian Biodiesel Program (PNPB).
I am an intrapeneur, an entrepreneur and a world citizen. I am a social animal with a background in Marketing and Sales Intelligence. I never see mountains only challenges. These challenges always translate into opportunities and this search, I also partly in sustainability, social equality and corporate social responsibility. Why, because I want to contribute to a better world. My mother is Dutch, my father British Guyanese, I was born in Suriname but grew up in Friesland in the North of the Netherlands. I moved more than 7 times and lived in different towns and villages in the Netherlands that has taught me to adapt quickly to new environments and establish a connection between people with different backgrounds. I have years of experience in private banking and marketing at ABN AMRO bank and I want to share my knowledge and experience for a more sustainable world.
